Waltzing Matilda Centre
The Waltzing Matilda Centre is the first museum in the world dedicated to a song! A celebration of our region and our resilience. Our fascinating museum is more than a celebration of our vibrant history. Opening in April 1998, the building was tragically destroyed by fire in June 2015. The fire was heartbreaking because the centre had a significance to the whole of Australia, not just Winton. It was a huge tourist attraction and an important employer. Thankfully, The Waltzing Matilda Centre was rebuilt and re-opened in April 2018 and is the pride of Winton and Outback Queensland once more. Our landmark celebrates the resilience of the region.
